Elder Nwaugo furthered described the fest as a show of strength, smartness, and professionalism. He maintained that if only the participant will moderate themselves during the fest and avoid defiling the waters, that it will be for the good of all. He called on the influential sons of the Kingdom whom are lovers of the fest to use their influence and draw down the attention of the local government, state and federal government. we have gotten to the stage of displaying our culture and festivity on the media (news papers, radio stations, television houses, bloggers and rest of them). Elder Nwaugo furthered that if live coverage of the Fishing festival is shown across states of the federation, luckily the local Government, state, federal and foreign investors may pick up interest and choose to invest on our cultural heritage. Who knows if our fest could be the center of Nigeria tourism? It will be a source of revenue to the nation. The general public is invited,
Elder Nwaugo who was asked the needed equipment’s and materials for the fest said. We use fishing nets of any preferred sizes, we use cannons, we use mosquito nets, we use rechargeable and battery fitted touch and laps, we go to the scene with our metal nets for the temporary smoking of our fishes, to some, they go with sound systems, with their generators, cooking tools and the rest of them. During the 8days fest a lot of amusing transactions take place. You see people exchanging fishes for a cigarette, fishes for ethanol (kia-kia), fishes for coconuts and lots of them. He continued that the 1st day of the fest is characterized as clean-up day. It is a day were we all visit our waters after 2years and a lot of works needs to be done like the clearing of allocated portion of land for temporary stay, fetching of fire woods for cooking and smoking of fishes, the building of a jungle house (temporary house with sticks and roofed round with nylon), arranging of cannons and fishing nets. Elder Nwaugo whom was asked how the fishing goes if it has a cordial pattern of commencing the fest Said yes. That normally if some people do not defile the water, which will lead to automatic commencement of the fest. A gunshot is usually the sound for the commencement of the fest. Before the Sound of the Gun which means Go, gallantry and calmness usually takes the lead. There is a punishment for anyone or group of persons who defiles the fest. And it is tantamount to some days in the police custody and then a fine of N50,000. The fest is fun full and Historic says Elder Nwaugo.
Save the date 20th April 12, 2017. Come and see for yourself.
